Limited Edition Collector Plates

Whether displayed in a custom built cabinet, mounted on the wall, or on a picture rail, limited edition collector plates will add beauty and artistry to any home. The range of plates could not be more varied and there is something to appeal to both traditional and contemporary tastes. Many collectors assemble a series and focus on one subject matter. From an investment point of view, the limited edition aspect ensures that the collection will gain in value.

It is a competitive market and artists make illustrations to the highest standard, to be produced in rich color on beautifully crafted china plates. They may represent modern life or serve as a trip down memory lane. Many limited edition collector plates have series on animals, birds, and nature scenes. Pictures depicting family life are also popular as in children and pets. The nostalgic paintings of American artist, Norman Rockwell have been reproduced on plates.

History and heritage is another popular theme with series such as American Steam (steam locomotives) and America’s Greatest Sailing Ships. The American Civil War is well represented in limited edition collector plates with portraits of Abraham Lincoln, General Robert E. Lee, General Sheridan, and Thomas Jackson. There are also plates showing famous battle scenes.

Children’s stories are a great inspiration to many artists and there are pictures from Alice in Wonderland, Aesop’s Fables, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Classic Fairy Tales and the Flower Fairy illustrations of Cicely Mary Barker. For a 20th century take on children’s stories, there are various Disney themed plates with pictures from several classic movies and general series such as Disneyland’s 40th Anniversary, Disney Musical Memories, and Disney Treasured Moments.

Iconic figures are captured, sure to win the hearts of devoted fans. The most popular member of the British Royal Family, Princess Diana, is shown in formal poses and in more informal moments. Elvis Presley is shown on limited edition collector plates, performing on stage, in the recording studio, relaxing at home in Graceland, and in Hollywood. There are also family portraits of him with his mother, Gladys and his father, Vernon.

Even the movies have a place in a modern display of limited edition collector plates. Classic films include The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and Gone with the Wind, which includes the dramatic burning of Atlanta scene. There is also a romantic series of Dr. Zhivago plates showing the Doctor and Lara. More recently, there is the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Tim Burton’s animation, The Corpse Bride.
